Invisalign: Orthodontics For Adults

Braces are as synonymous with adolescence as acne and changing voices. If you need braces as an adult, the mere memory of these torture devices might cause you to lock yourself in the bedroom, turn off the lights, and play maudlin music loud enough for the entire house to hear. Before you get too engrossed in self-loathing, let us tell you about Invisalign.

The Perks of Invisalign

Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment that is subtle and removable, yet completely effective. Invisalign uses a series of thin, clear plastic trays (called aligners) to gradually shift your teeth into the desired position. Esthetics are just one reason among many to choose Invisalign over traditional braces:

  • You can eat what you want! You will remove your aligner trays every time you eat or drink (with the exception of water), so you won’t have to worry about breaking off a bracket when you enjoy an ear of corn on the cob.
  • Brushing and flossing is a breeze! Again, Invisalign aligners are removable. When it’s time to brush and floss, just pop out the tray and begin your normal dental hygiene routine. No need for floss threaders or dental picks to get underneath wires.
  • They are comfortable! With Invisalign, you won’t need to buy dental wax to protect your mouth from broken wires and rough brackets.

The Process

When you’re ready to commit to Invisalign treatment, Dr. Hahn will take an impression of your teeth. This impression will be sent to a lab where your personal aligner trays will be created. You will receive new trays every two to three weeks; each set moves your teeth closer and closer to the desired position. You will need to visit Family Dental Choice about every four to six weeks to ensure that your treatment is going as planned. When you finish your treatment, a retainer will be used to preserve your new smile.
