Are you considering straightening your grin with Invisalign? Dr. Philip Hahn recommends learning as much as possible about this treatment so you know you’re what to expect. Family Dental Choice offers Invisalign clear aligners to Charlotte, North Carolina residents and surrounding communities. To better understand this treatment, we’ve compiled facts about Invisalign so you can determine if it’s right for you.
Although Invisalign is a great way to achieve a straighter, healthier smile, it’s not for everyone. These key facts can help you decide if it fits you well.
Invisalign offers an alternative to traditional metal braces to straighten your teeth. In place of metal hardware, you wear clear, plastic aligners that slowly, methodically shift your teeth into a straighter position. The aligners blend in with your teeth for invisibility. They can also be removed for eating and oral hygiene.
Invisalign can correct an array of minor to moderate orthodontic issues, including crooked teeth, overbites, crossbites, underbites, uneven spaces between teeth, and problems with overcrowding. Dr. Hahn will evaluate your teeth and gums to determine if you’re a good candidate for this treatment.
With Invisalign, treatment times can vary depending on the severity of your orthodontic issues. Some issues can be resolved quickly, while others may take up to 24 months to correct. Dr. Hahn can estimate the length of your treatment after your initial consultation. By being patient and committing to your treatment, you’ll be rewarded with a beautiful smile you can enjoy for years. Â
Invisalign aligners offer greater comfort than braces, as no metal wires are poking your gums or cheeks! That’s not to say, however, that there’s no discomfort. You may feel discomfort initially as the aligners put pressure on your teeth. The pressure won’t be as noticeable as you adjust to wearing your aligners and become used to how they work.
As the aligners are removable, it’s up to you to ensure they’re worn as instructed, i.e., 20 to 22 hours daily. Misplacing or failing to wear the aligners as instructed may lead to treatment delays. You’re also responsible for the upkeep and care of your aligners to avoid damage, loss, or staining. Similarly, you’re accountable for maintaining good oral hygiene to keep your teeth healthy and strong throughout your treatment.
When your treatment is complete, you’ll need to wear a retainer to keep your teeth straightened. Dr. Hahn will provide instructions on how to use your retainer.
