Your dental health is directly related to your overall health, and Family Dental Choice is committed to helping you with both. Part of your regular exam includes an oral cancer screening. Dr. Hahn has both the knowledge and technology to detect signs and symptoms of cancerous or precancerous conditions. Like all other cancers, oral cancer can be life-threatening if left untreated.
While some symptoms of oral cancer can be caused by more benign conditions, only a trained medical professional can discern between what is concerning and what is not. If you are experiencing any of the following common symptoms of oral cancer, visit our office as soon as possible:
- A spot or sore in the oral cavity
- A sore that bleeds easily or does not heal
- A lump, thickened area, or rough spot
- Pain, tenderness, or numbness in the mouth
- Difficulty chewing, swallowing, or speaking
Your oral cancer screening will not only involve a visual examination; we will feel your oral tissues, as well, to detect abnormalities. If we are concerned with our findings, we may perform a brush test, which collects cells from the area of concern. If our laboratory recommends further testing, we may suggest a biopsy.
