We’re big fans of fitness at Family Dental Choice. Our ultimate goal is to make sure you are healthy, and dental health is no exception. While you can’t do much with your teeth at the gym, there are many ways to make sure they stay fit. Follow our dental fitness workout plan to make sure you and your teeth are as healthy as they can be.
Exercise #1 – Brushing
Do at least two sets daily, preferably one after each meal. Sets should last two to three minutes each. Focus your efforts on the inside and outside of your upper and lower arches as well as your tongue. Use fluoride toothpaste and a soft bristled brush to enhance your results.
Exercise #2 – Flossing
Do at least one set daily, more if you eat foods that tend to get stuck in your teeth. Set should last as long as it takes you to get between each tooth with your favorite dental floss. If your gums are irritated or bleeding, push through the pain and continue to floss. Contact your dental fitness coach at Family Dental Choice to make an appointment, as your gums may be weakened by plaque and bacteria that can derail your dental health.
Exercise #3 – Dental Exams
Do at least two sets per year, more if recommended by your dental fitness coach. Cleanings and exams will keep your teeth healthy and prevent future problems like gum disease.
Avoid sticky and sugary foods that cause plaque. For optimal health, your dental fitness diet plan should include lots of the following foods:
- Calcium-rich foods such as cheese and yogurt to help strengthen your tooth enamel
- Leafy greens such as kale or dandelion greens to provide your body with vitamins and minerals
- Crunchy fruits and vegetables such as apples, carrots, and celery that will help naturally clean your teeth by increasing the flow of saliva
